The The SQL Server DBA will work in a SQL Server environment, and perform activities in supporting operational availability and restoration of service, including processes and administration activities as it relates to application, infrastructure, platform services. In addition, the candidate will execute database designs in compliance with architecture guidelines and business requirements.

Key Relationships:
  • Partners with business, backline teams and other technology partners to deliver support services
  • Partners with external vendors to deliver support services
  • Partners with infrastructure and/or BIS support teams (DR, UNIX, Intel, DB, Network) to ensure the integrity of the environment
  • Works with enterprise architects to gain architectural approvals
  • Partners with cross-functional business and technology team members to prioritize multiple requirements, issues, enhancements and/or to create alternatives for advanced support issues
  • Partners with data analysis/design and application teams to gather data and application usage requirements
  • Partners with testing team to address potential performance issues

Responsibilities Include:
  • Maintains knowledge of advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques, solid analytical skills, experience in system administration/configuration, refresh/upgrade projects and enhancements
  • Manages comprehensive test plans and test cases, ensuring release and all components are represented
  • Leverages strong knowledge of relevant business and technical processes to provide viable, flexible alternatives to support business change and growth
  • Creates updated solution (diagrams, code, test plans, etc.) in support of incident and problem management
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining strong relationships with business partners
  • Ensures processes are clearly documented and communicated via training, Quick Reference Cards (QRCs) and appropriate communications
  • Coordinates with other process owners to address and identify continuous improvement opportunities for incident, problem and change management processes; standard security access; release management; and other governance processes
  • Supports internal and external audits in partnership and collaboration with Business Controls & Compliance (BCC) team
  • Proactively manages environment and helps making sure that unplanned outages are reduced or eliminated by helping provide root cause for issues
  • Lead requirements gathering meetings with application teams, Database Administrators, and/or business partners to understand business needs; help define and anticipate business needs
  • Leads transition management process between the development and sustain teams
  • Follows architecture standards
  • Gathers access and volumetric requirements
  • Executes Data Definition Language (DDL) in all environments

Qualifications/Requirements

Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's Degree (MIS, IT or related field preferred)

Work Experience:
  • 7+ years experience in application development, data analysis or data management/governance

Skills & Capabilities:
  • 4 years of SQL Server Database Administration experience
  • Experience supporting a large (500+ instance) database environment
  • Experience coding and debugging Microsoft PowerShell scripts and modules
  • Experience with encrypted RDBMS environments
  • SQL Server high availability knowledge a plus
  • Oracle Database Administration knowledge a plus
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and aptitude
  • Strong interpersonal skills; strong written and verbal communications skills; experience with remote or virtual teams
  • Experience translating business and application requirements
  • Team player; ability to work well with changing priorities; demonstrated flexibility
