Network Planning and Scheduling Overview
The Network Planning & Scheduling department is responsible for strategic and operational decisions related to United’s global route network. We evaluate aircraft configurations, fleet acquisitions/retirements, and determine the long term strategy of United’s hubs and spokes. We plan capacity in existing markets and forecast performance of potential new additions to the network, both domestically and internationally. We schedule each of our 5,000 daily departures on all of our different aircraft types. We optimize the schedule for passenger connectivity and operational feasibility and reliability. We review revenue and cost performance of all of our markets to optimally deploy capacity and maximize network profitability.
 
Job Description
The Sr. Analyst role is responsible for optimizing United’s global route network to maximize profitability. Depending on the specific role, responsibilities may include the following:
  • Managing a portfolio of markets by analyzing profitability impact of potential changes and making tactical and strategic recommendations for market additions, market exits, or frequency or aircraft changes
  • Evaluating aircraft purchases, retirements, or reconfigurations
  • Developing long term strategic plans for United’s network
  • Building cross-functional working relationships to gain perspective and improve decision making
     
Critical Skills and Experience
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills required
  • Ability to handle simultaneous projects and adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint
  • Three years of work experience demonstrating increasing responsibility
  • Intellectual curiosity, desire to learn, ability to take initiative
  • Candidate for Master’s in Business Administration (MBA)
  • Positions are based in Chicago, IL
  • Target start date is summer 2018
