Reporting to the Head of Investment Risk Analysis & Strategy, the role will require building models that analyze the risk and return profiles of primary asset classes to drive investment views and assist in the production of enhanced surveillance and risk reports for the General Account and Enterprise. The TIAA General Account is invested across a diversified set of fixed income and equity segments. Examples of investment risks to be examined and analyzed within each major asset class would include credit risk, equity risk, country/geographical concentration, currency risk, off-balance sheet risk and derivatives risk.




  • Assist in developing for each asset class a view on fundamental risk drivers within an asset class;
  • Assist in the development of asset class specific surveillance and risk reporting framework;
  • Assist in the analysis for benchmark selection/derivation for risk budgeting;
  • Help expand and upgrade the content for enterprise wide risk reporting;
  • Develop risk based limit frameworks with attribution across the appropriate investment risks;
  • Analyzing the enterprise wide risk profile for undue concentrations of risk
  • Work across the various functions in Risk Management to ensure that risk calculations and sensitivity analysis are based on reasonable, fundamentals oriented intuition.




  • Strong understanding of techniques used for analyzing risk and return profiles of multi asset class portfolios is required, 4+ years’ experience is preferred.
  • Experience with risk modeling techniques associated with value at risk, economic capital, Monte Carlo simulations, asset allocation and active portfolio management required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, and Mathematics, Statistics or Scientific discipline is required; Advanced Degree highly desired.
  • Understanding of econometrics and statistical financial modeling is highly desired.
  • Proficiency with VBA, SQL, and Excel is highly desired.
  • Matlab, R, or other statistical packages is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with quantitative teams.
  • Strong written and verbal skills. Ability to summarize and communicate complex information effectively in a non-technical manner for senior management.
