McKesson’s Corporate Legal Department is seeking a commercial counsel generalist with healthcare industry experience to advise McKesson’s US Pharmaceutical drug wholesale business (US Pharmaceutical), which is a division of McKesson’s Distribution Solutions Business. US Pharmaceutical delivers pharmaceutical products and business services to retail pharmacies and institutional health system providers throughout North America and internationally.
The primary responsibility of this position will be to support the US Pharmaceutical Health Systems Segment (MHS), which is comprised of community hospitals, academic medical centers and health systems, long term care facilities, government agencies and other providers. Responsibilities will further include serving as business unit general counsel for two subsidiaries providing consulting services, GPO services and IT products to US Pharmaceutical customers. The preferred location for this position is Atlanta (North Druid Hills), GA, with some flexibility for qualified candidates in San Francisco.
At the direction of the Chief Counsel, MHS, the lawyer will provide legal support for a variety of US Pharmaceutical product offerings. Responsibilities will include the following:
Drafting, review and negotiation of various complex commercial arrangements, including customer drug distribution supply contracts, manufacturer pricing contracts, purchasing group/GPO contracts, government contracts, consulting service agreements and web-based supply chain software licenses.
Identifying and providing legal counsel on health care and other regulatory issues, such as State and Federal Fraud and Abuse, HIPAA/privacy and Anti-trust matters.
Providing business unit legal counsel to business leaders and others regarding new product launches, services and initiatives.
Educating and making appropriate recommendations to clients in order to resolve complex legal issues and mitigate risks.
Working directly with sales professionals, distribution center operations teams, customer service specialists and other cross-functional corporate teams.
Managing a fast-paced customer contracting process and prioritizing many simultaneous projects in an efficient and timely manner within a dynamic business and industry environment.
10 years of legal practice
At least three years experience as in-house legal counsel or five years in a law firm with direct client counseling and responsibility for client-firm relationship.
5 years of commercial contracting experience, including direct experience negotiating transactions.
Experience in the healthcare industry or with healthcare industry clients, e.g., pharmaceutical manufacturers, biotech, medical device, hospitals, group purchasing organizations, pharmacy, health plans, insurers, providers, etc.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the desire to work in a collaborative environment on a team of high-performing legal professionals.
Additional Knowledge & Skills
Experience with healthcare regulations strongly preferred
Experience with government, state, local entity contracting preferred
Blend of law firm and in-house experience preferred
General office demands.
