As a Sr. Director, Market Access Strategy (Respiratory) in Wilmington, DE , you'll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives. North American Commercial is the 'face' of AstraZeneca and MedImmune to our many healthcare clients. They represent many of the most well recognized and respected products in the industry, and build strong relationships with healthcare professionals.
AstraZeneca holds a unique position in respiratory disease, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), with a range of differentiated potential medicines in development by leveraging novel combinations, biologics and devices. The pipeline also has a number of promising assets in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases within areas such as psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, systemic lupus and rheumatoid arthritis
The Sr. Director, Market Access Strategy (Respiratory) directs a function dedicated to developing managed care strategies and promotional tactics. Identifies pull-through tactics and works on annual business plans that align with account and product strategies. Works closely with Marketing, Sales, Medical, Regulatory and Legal to deliver cost effective medicines. Leads team of Managed Markets brand managers and contract strategists.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for providing payer acumen to brand teams in order to ensure customer and Managed Market view of brand strategy is represented

Assists in developing the patient journey from brand perspective, in order to identify new opportunities for services and programs

Acts as single point of accountability for value proposition of brands
Directs, builds and leads teams to focus on execution of negotiation and access activities

Manages a staff, including performance management and hiring decision processes

Effectively manages all aspects of the contract creation and implementation process, including resource allocation and management of internal and external customer expectations

Defines qualitative and quantitative metrics to increase efficiency / effectiveness

Interacts with management and internal customers to provide knowledgeable input with regard to the factors that need to be considered as market and product strategies are developed
Leads team's development of Managed Markets components of brand strategy and marketing plans for assigned brands

Manage team of Market Access leaders to provide payer acumen to brand teams

Supports Market Access leader's contributions to brand pricing / contracting strategy discussions during brand PSP (Payer Strategic Plan)

Act as orchestrator of the patient journey -- sharing best practices across brands and identifying common areas of improvement

Provide guidance to account managers on issues related to brand strategy

Tailor brand value story for customer segments, in partnership with CSP segment strategy teams and customer teams

Serve as liaison between MAPS and the brand teams on brand-relevant programs/tactics geared toward payer and intermediary customers
Ability to translate between brand and managed markets priorities

Ability to interact and collaborate effectively with senior commercial leadership

Proactive internal consultant to brand teams, informing and influencing them on managed markets issues and helping to incorporate managed markets objectives into brand PSPs
Key Relationships to reach solutions: 
Internal (to AZ or team) MAPS Functions, Brand Teams, Medical Affairs, HEOR, Legal, Regulatory, Compliance, Field Sales, and Finance
External (to AZ)   Agencies and other commercial vendors and key customer's (as requested)
Essential Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 15+ years of experience within the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical market; preferably in Payer Marketing, Brand Marketing, Market Research, Account Management, and/or Field Sales
  • Experience in US market access landscape and the legal/regulatory environment for pharmaceuticals/biopharmaceuticals; must have experience with both primary care and specialty care businesses
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 20%)
Preferred Requirements
  • MBA in relevant field
  • Experience in customer facing roles
  • Ability to work independently and experience developing and executing strategy
  • Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity in a highly matrixed environment
  • Results oriented with excellent communication and collaboration skills
