Responsible for wireless devices and CPE technology development and engineering including WiFi and mobile devices and CPE. Drive the wireless UE & CPE technology roadmap with stakeholders, i.e. product organization, engineering and operations as well as vendors and MNO, MVNE and MSO partners. Define Charter’s wireless devices technology strategies merging the wireless efforts of Charter, Time Warner Cable (TWC) and Bright House Networks (BHN) and driving the implementation of this unified Charter solution, allowing wireless access within the customer’s home, business and on the go.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
•Responsible for Wireless UEs and CPEs related infrastructure and products working in close collaboration with other engineering organizations, product development organizations, vendors, MNO, MVNE & MSO partners and standards and policy organizations.
•Develops and manages yearly budget for Charter’s wireless devices engineering and technology development efforts and develops tools and processes UEs and CPE testing & Certification and on-going bug fixes and operational support
•Assesses new products requirements and develop UE & CPE technology solutions and architecture design to support them.
•Produces Technical Bulletins and relevant technical documentation for Operations to deploy and manage WiFi & Mobile Devices and CPEs.
•Tests & certifications of mobile devices/UEs and Home/SMB Routers software and hardware for the field to deploy.
•Supports the deployment of WiFi and 4G/5G and provide technical support to operations after deployment and supports Charter’s Regulatory Affairs with wireless activities such as the recent FCC Spectrum Auctions activities.
•Develops and validates new technology to include studying new technology trends, formulating impact statement of such technologies on Charter’s wireless UEs and CPEs strategy and roadmap.
•Validates the capabilities of such technologies through lab evaluation and possibly field trials.
•Develops a long-term technology evolution roadmap (3-5 years) articulating the strategic decision points, technology evolution plan and recommendations with regard to UE and CPE technology.
•Performs lab evaluation and field trials to validate new technology concepts from a UE and CPE perspectives.
•Contributes and represents Charter in relevant industry and standards forums providing leadership with regards to UE and CPE technology evolution.
•Intellectual Property creation, patent filing and promotion of such IP through the contribution to relevant standards and industry forums.
•Represented TWC in meeting with the FCC and provide technical expertise to NCTA in responding to the FCC NPRM (Notice of Public Rule Making) regarding 5GHz, 600MHz and 3.5GHz auctions.
•Provides a robust wireless connectivity experience around the home through the use of a single access-point or multi-AP managed solution.
•Monitors, detects, and remediates WiFi related issues using RRM/SON (Radio Resource Management/Self-Organizing Network) solutions.
•Develops Carrier grade Video over WiFi solutions.
•Supports new initiatives related to WiFi First, Hotspot 2.0, and other mobile roaming efforts
•Drives new innovative technologies and approaches (802.11ad/ay, UWB, BNC, Mesh Network, and others) for increasing the performance, reliability, and QoE (Quality of Experience) for customers, while driving down the CPE cost.
•Supports other initiatives that may include improving network security, virus detection, and virtualization of network functions, along with new applications running on the Router to support new services that Product may request.
•Supports efforts to maximize the performance of Spectrum WiFi (public WiFi infrastructure), while protecting the performance and experience of users on their own private SSID and supports new wireless technologies for IoT activities to possibly include: 802.15.4, ZigBee, Thread, Weave, Bluetooth, 802.11ah, etc. and supports efforts related to RDK-B and CableLabs initiatives of interest.
•Drives standards so Charter can become more agnostic to silicon and OEM vendors for functions like Airtime Fairness, Band-steering, AP Steering, and WiFi APIs.
•Provides specific technical leadership as the subject matter expert in the following areas: CPE & UE technology strategy, Technology Solution strategy, Architecture evolution, Technology innovation
•Analyzes complex business needs presented by the user community and/or clients and recommends technical solutions.
•Produces detailed timeline for each product release and implements effective project control by monitoring the progress of the software release and reporting the status.
•Directs and prioritizes the work load of subordinate personnel.
•Reviews all designs, code and unit test plans where applicable and reviews and approves all business requirements prior to the technical solution.
•Participates on all hardware and software evaluations and maintains vendor contracts.
•Performs salary administration and conduct interviews and make recommendations for new hires, consultants and/or replacement personnel.
•Ensures financial assurance and alignment, monitors cost optimizations, maintains continuous process improvements and efficiencies.
•Comprehensive knowledge of wireless technologies including WiFi, 4G-LTE, familiarity with 5G
•Demonstrated ability to manage the wireless devices & CPE engineering within an organization of a well-known media brand.
•Hands-on experience with a broad range of wireless devices and CPE technologies including WiFi, 4G-LTE and IoT
•Competency with mobile core (EPC, IMS), WiFi access and core, and key networking elements such as routing, switching, and security.
•Strong ability to lead a team of engineers at junior and senior levels.
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Strong customer-service orientation.
•Experience working with the leading handsets vendors such as Apple and Samsung, top MSOs, Telco, satellite operators or major wireless vendor in the U.S.
•Familiarity with the CPE Wireless Gateway and Router designs and roadmap plans for all major Operators in the U.S.
•Operational experience with WiFi on 4G-LTE
