This Charlotte, NC based position will be responsible for tracking and analyzing legislative and regulatory policy items at the state and federal levels. This opportunity will enable the individual to interact with all areas of Brighthouse in analyzing potential legislation and regulation and formulating the Brighthouse position and strategy.

 The incumbent will have primary responsibility for oversight and management of the tracking system used by the Government Relations team and will leverage additional tools to identify policy items of concern, help coordinate action between Government Relations and impacted business lines, and prepare research and summary documents as required in order to achieve Brighthouse Financial’s goals.

 

 

 

 

  • Identify and monitor legislative and regulatory policy items that impact Brighthouse Financial through tracking systems, trade associations, NAIC communications, and other tools
  • Provide oversight and management of internal tracking system and act as key resource for communications emanating from the tracking system to Brighthouse Financial’s internal lobbyists and other business units
  • Identify and advance product specific as well as companywide legislative and regulatory priorities in coordination with business partners and senior company executives.
  • Develop and execute strategy to address those objectives, including facilitating regulatory approval and coordinating cross-jurisdictional advocacy on key issues
  • Provide Government Relations coverage and prepare summaries of internal and external meetings or calls as required by management
  • Act as key liaison between Brighthouse Financial IT team, Government Relations, and external vendor customer service representatives to oversee maintainence of tracking system and respond to errors in system
  • Identify and monitor companywide and product-specific legislative and regulatory priorities in coordination with business partners and senior company executives. 
  • Monitor product filings in key states to keep Government Relations team apprised of review status and identify areas where Government Relations can assist with approvals

 

 

 

  • 6 or more years of relevant experience within state/federal government agency or state legislative/congressional office experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to distill legislative text and regulatory bulletins into easily digestible, actionable summaries
  • Knowledge of state and federal legislative and regulatory process required, with life insurance/financial services experience a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, paralegal certificate a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a team-oriented attitude, and ability to work collaboratively across functions required.
