Job Description:
Title: Sr. Product Engineer I
Purpose:
With minimal direction from Department Managers, this position is responsible to provide support, perform, or lead activities related with the design, development, and analysis of all lead acid product line projects to meet customers' requirements in different capacities.

Specific Responsibilities and Deliverables:

  • Develops and executes Scopes of Work related to the design, development, and validation of products.
  • Prepare detailed plans to track area performance and assure timely completion and achievement of project goals.
  • Support team members on any regional product line projects.
  • Report on project progress to management and other appropriate leadership levels on weekly and monthly bases.
  • Analyze the requirements, capabilities and performance of new and existing products
  • Analyze new designs using DFMEA and risk assessment.
  • Facilitate procurements of prototype components, building prototype units, testing and analyzing results.
  • Communicates technical issues, with clarity, to non-technical audiences.
  • Provide technical support to current product line in the region

Design :
  • Define and document all lead acid design systems to meet customer requirements for OE, OES and AM program needs.
  • D-FMEA development
  • Design standards expertise for all lead acid product lines
  • Responsible for BOM documentation and release for ED/DV/PV trials
  • Review DVP&R test plan and updates.
  • Execute compliance analysis on an on-going basis
  • Address quality concerns via analysis and resolutions of issues
  • Maintain design Standards for Lead Acid product lines

    Development :
  • Plan and execute Engineering sample builds required for OE, OES and AM program & project needs.
  • Contribute to design reviews, D&P-FMEA and Control Plan
  • Develop prototype control plan
  • Responsible for documenting prototype control plans
  • Document and summarize DBDS
  • Plan and execute engineering builds
  • Deliver engineering battery and component samples to test locations
  • Represents E&PD on P-FMEA and Control plan development
  • Lead Acid equipment and tool knowledge
  • Work and lead small teams for build execution as necessary

    Validation :
  • Plan and execute engineering product validations required for OE, OES and AM program & project needs.
  • Contribute to design reviews, D&P-FMEA and Control Plan
  • Prepare and submit EPT to test labs
  • Define and review with team and customer DVP&R's
  • Support with Engineering data the PPAP package for customer approval

Knowledge & Experience
  • Design standards for all lead acid product lines
  • Unit cell of equivalent modeling design tool
  • Design for manufacturability, D-FMEA capability
  • Applications, products, processes, and materials knowledge
  • Problem solving tools (KT, 8D, etc.)
  • Statistical analysis tools (DMAIC, DfSS, Minitab, etc.)
  • Lead Acid equipment and tool knowledge
  • Dimensional and tolerance analysis
  • Gaging and in process test development
  • Fleet test experience
  • Capable to summarize test data and report for external customers
  • OE and AM test specifications experience and customer interface experience
  • OE (Toyota, Honda, Hyundai) experience a plus



Job Qualifications:
Qualifications:
  • BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Automotive engineering required
  • MS or PhD in Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering discipline preferred
  • 8 + years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience in Battery, Automotive, Systems and/or Plant Processes preferred
  • Experience in Six Sigma methodologies preferred
  • Strong communication skills required
  • Ability to speak and write Japanese would be a plus
  • Travel expectation is 10-35% between Milwaukee and other JCI battery facilities sites as necessary
