Product Manager, AI (New Product Development)

The AI team defines the future of Search, Human Language Technologies and Computer Vision for eBay, worldwide, on all platforms. These competencies are critical to eBay, as they support and define the future of eCommerce, as more and more customers are interacting with bots with voice or text, enjoying Augmented Reality interactions, and expecting very relevant, personalized results.

eBay is seeking a senior level Product Manager to define and drive key projects within the AI team. These are essential to help shape the future of eBay, and of eCommerce as a whole.

Within eBay, the New Product Development team is in charge of monitoring of technological development, testing and experimenting with promising new technologies by bringing new eBay experiences to market.

The Product Manager for AI will be in charge of defining the vision, strategy and implementation for a collection of projects within the team, potentially across Search, Human Language Technologies and Computer Vision, depending on fit and interest. He/she will work closely with a cross functional team of user experience, business, designers, and engineers to define requirements, and drive his/her projects through all phases of development.This individual will also be responsible for providing management with visibility to ongoing roadmap progress.


  • Contribute to the overall strategy for the eBay AI track. Be the internal champion for some useful, sustainable solutions.

  • Drive detailed requirement definitions intended for the engineering teams.

  • Product-manage initiatives throughout their project lifecycle.

  • Work with engineering to prioritize and fix issues that arise on a day to day basis.

  • Evangelize product plans to other eBay teams to gain support and resources.

  • Communicate program status to constituencies and executives.

  • Organize cross-functional production support and enhancement request based on functional strategy, prioritization, and impact sizing.

  • Build positive relationships through a strong commitment to high quality and on time delivery.

  • Ensure appropriate tracking and measurement mechanisms are in place.


  • Experience with two or more of the following technologies: search, semantic understanding / search, engagement prediction, human language understanding, commerce bots, voice interactions, image search, augmented reality, machine learning, machine translation, dialog management, personalization

  • 5+ years product or program management experience.

  • BA/BS degree required, MBA or advanced degree preferred..

  • Demonstrated success in building and launching consumer products based on new, advanced technologies.

  • Effectively able to communicate to a global audience and to management.

  • Self-motivated and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment where ambiguity and short turnaround schedules are the norm.

  • Must exhibit high degree of ownership and accountability.


  • Engineering background.

  • Start-up/entrepreneurial experience.

  • Additional language skills a plus.
