The candidate will be a key contributor to Research and Early Development programs at Shire. The candidate will collaborate closely with colleagues from the Discovery Biology group to drive programs forward from idea conception to development candidate by providing subject matter expertise on molecular biology and biochemistry, while demonstrating a deep interest in the biology and a strong sense of urgency for rapid program progression. The candidate will serve as a core team member or a leader on various project teams. Primary responsibilities include generation of protein, antibody and cell line, and development of functional assay to enable target validation, high throughput screening, and in vitro and in vivo proof of concept studies of protein, antibody, peptide, small molecule, and gene therapy modalities. The candidate will also manage both internal and external resource to generate critical protein and cell line reagents in the most efficient manner. This position is accountable for completion of project goals within tight timelines in accordance with project plans.
Experimental design and execution
Manage internal and external resource for protein and cell line generation
Perform background research of biomolecules, participate in project teams, and provide strategies for trouble shooting for colleagues
Composing scientific presentations, writing research reports and contribute to patent filing and external publication
Education & Experience Requirements:
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Protein Chemistry or relevant field; 7 - 12 years of a combined Post-Doctoral, industrial and academic experience
Hands-on and supervisory experience in molecular biology and biochemistry techniques such as molecular cloning, protein expression, protein characterization, and research cell line generation and characterization. Strong expertise in mammalian cell culture and in vitro functional assay development is required.
