The Speech Services and Runtime team at Microsoft is looking for a strong development engineer join our newly formed group. This team will be part of the Cortana team, focusing on cutting edge speech services (containerization and microservices) as well as speech runtime architecture (new algorithms and APIs). The role will encompass defining and implementing new architecture, developing the decoder SW and service as well as making sure the speech service is always available. Making it easier to design, develop, debug, and test great speech applications across platforms from embedded devices to desktops to servers and services. You will work in conjunction with the larger Speech at Microsoft teams in Mountainview, Munich and China.

We are of course looking for a strong dev candidate for this position. This position is based in Redmond and reports to a manager in Redmond. As such, operating independently and strong communication skills are extremely important for this position. Some key traits of strong development engineers we are looking for include, low level native code experience, systems code experience, services code experience, the ability to lead-by-example, strong focus on test and documentation, accountable, and being a strong partner with other disciplines. The ideal candidate will have experience developing speech applications or production services, so that they have a firsthand understanding of the problems we are trying to address.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of software engineering
Proficient in at least of one of C#/C++/JAVA
Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, mathematics, engineering or related field is required

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing tools is a plus. As we are creating a new team, the ideal candidate will be strong in resolving ambiguity and planning. The candidate should have seven or more years of experience as an engineer. Experience with machine learning infrastructure or speech recognition is a plus.
