The **Enterprise File Services Team** within the **Protocols** engineering organization is seeking a **Senior-level Software Design Engineer** to join the **SMB/NFS server project** . As part of Isilon’s core product strategy, we offer a true clustered file system that can be expanded from a few dozen terabytes up to many petabytes. This enables several thousand customers to work at a scale that hasn’t previously been possible. If you are interested in building complex systems with high quality, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with smart, passionate engineers, then we want to hear from you! **JOB SUMMARY** As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will work within a development team to drive product features in Isilon’s OneFS product from initial requirements to final release. Your knowledge of security and file access network protocols, open source, UNIX system level design and implementation, distributed systems, and client/server interoperability will help us create industry leading products for the Isilon product line within the Emerging Technologies Division within EMC 2 . **PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** + Develop software solutions on Isilon’s OneFS platform to enhance our customer’s ability to manage multiple petabytes of data. + Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills across multiple teams to obtain requirements, build a detailed design, and provide a high quality implementation. + Develop solutions to complex technical problems that deal with high scale, concurrency, and performance. + Contribute to the culture of quality throughout our broader engineering organization. + Share experiences and skills to aid team members in enhancing their professional skills and career. + Possess a strong aptitude exploring new technologies and understanding how to apply them to new product releases and in customer facing support scenarios. **CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS** + BS in Computer Science or related technical field, and 5-7+ years industry experience with network or storage protocols, UNIX/Linux systems software development, or related field. + Experience working on one or more product release cycles. + Development of system software written in C or C++. Additional experience with Python is preferred. + Knowledge of object oriented design patterns. + Experience in one or more unit test frameworks. + Candidates may also possess any of these highly desired skills: + Experience with file based network protocols such as NFS or SMB + An understanding of the UNIX operating environment including system configuration, memory management, system calls, multi-threading, and multiplexed I/O. + Knowledge of distributed software solutions + Knowledge and/or exposure to kernel and user mode technologies. **EMC Values:** When you choose our company, you join a diverse world of innovative thought leaders.
