Role Summary:

Responsible for operational engineering of a set of services. Works independently and contributes to the immediate team and to other teams across business.

Essential Responsibilities:

+ Contributes to design discussions.

+ Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts.

+ Ability to take ownership of small and medium sized tasks and deliver while mentoring and helping team members.

+ Has the ability to analyze impact of technology choices.

+ Helps drive pair programming practices and code reviews across the team.

+ Expert in writing code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project.

+ Demonstrates the initiative to explore alternate technology and approaches to solving problems.

+ Skilled in core data structures and algorithms and implements them using appropriate chosen language.

+ Demonstrates expert understanding of functional and nonfunctional requirements and their priority within the backlog.

+ Promotes availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency by proactively sharing impact of software design choices on system operations.

+ Understands operating systems and networks and the tools used to diagnose problems and validate solutions.

+ Participate in on call rotation.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Basic Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management or other technical / IT field, OR in lieu of a degree: a HS diploma/GED and minimum 4 years of IT experience or equivalent military experience/training.

+ Minimum 3 years IT experience in enterprise-wide deployments

+ Exceptional knowledge and experience deploying and managing Cloud technologies

+ Demonstrated experience scripting or developing software and services for the cloud Ruby, Python, Go, Java, Node.js, .NET, etc.

Desired Characteristics:

+ Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies

+ Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or other Public Cloud DevOps and/or Solution Architecture Certification

+ Demonstrated Hands On Experience Developing Solutions with Cloud Orchestration Tools (Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Salt, etc.)

+ Thought leader, and/or certification in modern IT/developer operations

+ Hands on experience designing and implementing solutions leveraging multiple services within public cloud providers

+ Strong Knowledge of IP Networking including VPC's, VPN's, VRF, DNS, Load-balancing, and Firewalls

+ Demonstrated Experience with the Software Development Lifecycle and Associated Tools

+ Understanding of SOA and REST

+ Demonstrated customer focus - evaluates decisions through the eyes of the customer; builds strong customer relationships; creates processes with customer viewpoint; partners with customers to help shape their future initiatives

+ Strong analytical and strong problem solving skills - communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively evaluates information/data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve; creates actionable strategies and operational plans

+ Change oriented - actively generates process improvements ; champions and drives change initiatives; confronts difficult circumstances in creative ways, balances multiple and competing priorities and executes accordingly\#DTR
