As a member of the VCE Platform Engineering (PE) team you will be responsible for working collaboratively with a variety of people across Engineering, Quality Assurance (QA), Manufacturing and Professional Services to introduce new and updated VCE Data Protection solutions. The Data Protection team develops solutions that can be applied across all VCE platforms using EMC Data Protection solutions including Avamar, DataDomain, VPLEX, and RecoverPoint.
As an engineer within the Data Protection team you will work closely with the Architects, Product Management, and your peers to develop new offerings and update the current offerings to address new functional requirements. You will design, prototype, and document solutions that encompass a sound deployment strategy based on existing proven VCE designs and using best practices from EMC.
Skills & Knowledge:
+ 5 years of experience in technology related roles
+ Experience in a product engineering, service provider environment, or consultative role related to private cloud or converged infrastructure projects
+ Hands-on experience in one or more of the following technologies is required. A broad range of experience is highly desired, as is a deep specialization in one or more:
+ EMC Avamar
+ EMC Data Domain
+ EMC RecoverPoint
+ EMC VPLEX
+ VMware vSphere 5.x, 6.x
+ VMware NSX
+ VMware Site Recovery Manager
+ Experience with VCE Vblock Systems, EMC storage technologies, Cisco UCS Compute platforms, and/or Cisco networking is desirable.
+ Strong experience with competitive backup/recovery solutions will be considered
+ Experience in an Agile or Scrum development environment is desirable but not required.

+ Enjoy working hands-on in a lab environment to conduct system installation, configuration and design validation
Design, prototype, and validate solutions including a variety of internal and external facing documentation, bill of materials (BoM) details and ordering system configuration and verification.
Work with other members of PE to determine the proper solution design for the feature requests
+ Add the proper parts and parts hierarchies to the database through a change request (ECR) process.
+ Provide a complete and validated bill of materials (BoM) for the new or revised solutions
+ Develop detailed physical configuration rules for use in defining the configuration tool logic and user interface as well as the Modular Vblock Tool (MVT).
+ Develop applicable configuration tool requirements or rules modification for submission to the development team as part of the new product introduction (NPI) process.
Physical and logical build guides: Work with the team Architect, Platform Owner, and other platform engineers to create new or modify the current Vblock implementation documentation and procedures to address the requirements of new or changed features.
+ Physical build specifications including build guide and sample elevations, port maps & cable matrices
+ Logical build specifications including any design impacts on component configurations and virtualization software
Parts Database & Configuration Tool Validation: Work with the Sales Support, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, PMO and Configuration Tool development teams to ensure the integrity of the parts database system and new configuration revisions.
+ Perform database validation on newly added parts and SKUs
+ Periodically assist in scrubbing the database for parts and SKUs that do not conform to Platform Engineering defined standards
Validate new system releases before they are rolled into production to ensure that changes comply with the Engineering intentions of the change request
