State and Local Government Relations Communications Lead (Communications Consultant 5)

Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Communications for Community Responsibility and Government Relations, this newly-created position will focus on promoting and protecting Wells Fargo’s reputation through engagement with Wells Fargo’s State and Local Government (SLGR) organization. The person in this role will work with the team to develop strategies and content that help communicate Wells Fargo’s positions on state and local policy issues and will also design and implement corporate and local grassroots-type storytelling relevant for regional and local policymakers and influencers. :

  • Develop and implement strategic, integrated communications plans that incorporate internal, media, social, executive and branded channel communications in support of SLGR priorities
  • Identify proactive external engagements to advance local and regional storytelling initiatives in a grass roots campaign capacity that demonstrate Wells Fargo’s commitment to the communities it serves
  • Serve as a trusted and strategic counselor on messaging, reputation and issues management, media relations, and crisis communications
  • Track and measure results of plan to ensure that results are in line with intended outcomes and business objectives
  • Develop and maintain solid working relationships with regional communications partners
  • Develop strategic responses to media inquiries and provide heads-up notifications to leaders as appropriate
  • Partner with other Corporate Communications teams and across other business lines of Wells Fargo to ensure coordination, consistency, and efficiency of resources

The Community Responsibility and Government Relations Communications team is responsible for developing and implementing strategic, integrated communications campaigns on behalf of two Wells Fargo enterprise functions: Corporate Responsibility and Community Relations; and Government Relations and Public Policy. The team supports efforts related to Wells Fargo’s corporate social responsibility efforts including philanthropy, community relations, environmental affairs, diversity and inclusion and more. Members of the team also support Wells Fargo’s government relations and public policy objectives at the federal, state and local level.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of communications experience

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working in a communications discipline (public relations, media relations or corporate communications) in a cross-functional and highly-matrixed capacity
  • Experience working with State and Local Governments as well as relevant influencers on public policy issues or communications strategy
  • Experience developing integrated communications strategies and plans that align with business and policy objectives
  • Experience in managing reputational and crisis communications, internally and externally
  • Experience presenting information in a manner that persuades, educates, and enhances understanding at all levels
  • Experience developing compelling content and leveraging multiple channels for creative storytelling
