Job Summary

Works closely with Corporate Finance staff, as well as business unit finance and operations personnel, to create, implement and oversee financially sound strategies and initiatives for achieving operational excellence, innovation excellence, and growth. Analyzes internal and external financial data to help define problems and assess business cases, as well as to identify new opportunities and develop strategies for capitalizing on them. Assists in designing and effectively articulating business solutions, personally presenting findings, conclusions and recommendations. Serves as lead liaison for business unit in financial matters. Represents the department, interfacing with company personnel at all levels. Provides detailed financial modeling, scenario and valuation analysis and due diligence support. Assists with capital appropriations requests and business case preparation, in conformance with established procedures. Supplies financial data and analysis to support both structured and innovative problem-solving approaches. Creates executive summaries justifying significant capital expenditures and provides staff with status and projections, capital outlays and returns on investment. Prepares monthly financial analyses of operational, strategic and growth initiative performance, identifying main variances against business plan and forecast. Develops and tracks additional metrics as required by functional officer. Helps administer and facilitate designated aspects of annual and long- term planning processes, providing timely guidance and support. Uses financial models to identify key drivers and risks so as to help assure an achievable business plan with appropriate profitable growth targets. Drives continuous improvement in the quality (timeliness and accuracy) of financial data (including forecasts) and acts as the departmental focal point for identifying, coordinating and resolving financial data issues.

Essential Job Functions

*Performs internal and external financial analyses of the insurance industry, specific competitors and best-in-class (non-insurance) companies for benchmarking purposes.

*Summarizes the insights gained and develops actionable recommendations for capitalizing on corporate strengths and opportunities, while mitigating weaknesses and threats.

*Packages and presents findings to senior staff.

*Develops financial performance metrics for strategy execution and delivery of expected benefits.

*Analyzes company financial statements and other financial performance data in order to determine a company's value and to project its future earnings.

*May entail contacts with company officials to gain additional insight into a firm's prospects and to determine its managerial effectiveness.

*Maintains awareness and assess the impact of economic and insurance industry developments (e.g. trends in business practices, products, competition and regulation) that may affect earnings.

*Prepares, tracks, explains and reports on the projects budget, as directed by the functional officer.

*Participates in cross-functional teams engaged in special projects or critical initiatives.

*Mentors individuals and work groups in financial disciplines.

*Creates/adapts templates for presenting financial analysis, findings, recommendations and status in clear and concise formats.

*Verifies use of financial best practices in the design and execution of initiatives. *Identifies new opportunities to add value both within and beyond the scope of formal projects.

*Leverages corporate data and research resources and collaborates with the businesses, Finance, IT, etc.

*Strengthens existing relationships with business unit customers and cultivates new ones.

*Uses spreadsheet and statistical software packages to analyze financial data, discover trends and develop forecasts.

*Writes reports and makes presentations summarizing findings.

*Promotes safety at all times and complies with safety/ergonomic standards as outlined in company manuals.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Actions

Required job duties are essentially sedentary work consisting of occasional walking, standing and lifting and/or carrying 10-lbs. maximum and seeing.

Physical Environment

Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment. May be minimal travel associated with regular job duties, entailing additional physical demands connected with such activities.

Education Requirements

Four year college degree (accounting, business administration, mathematics, statistics or finance) Master’s degree in Business Admin istration preferred, but not required. Certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst preferred.

Experience Requirements

Minimum 3-5 years as a financial analyst or financial advisor.

Special Skill Requirement

Strong financial analytics/quantitative skills MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint (MS Access and Lotus Notes helpful but not essential. Ability to develop and deliver both oral and written messages that clearly explain complex concepts to varied audiences, including the ability to handle sensitive communications effectively and tactfully. Ability to structure complex problems and break them into manageable components. Experience building financial business cases Business acumen to identify opportunities and develop recommendations based on deep under-standing of trends and opportunities in the insurance industry. Courage to think creatively and to reach conclusions, despite ambiguities/unknowns. Results orientation with a bias for action Interpersonal skills with which to build networks and manage internal and external relationships. Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, juggling multiple projects.
