- A very solid understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, Server Roles, and basic networking is a prerequisite for junior and mid-level positions. The typical person with this skill set generally has about two years of business IT support, supporting either multiple clients, or being the primary IT support person for all facets of IT in a sizeable business (~50 users). You might have an MCSA, and maybe a CCNA.
- Mid-level and senior professionals should have everything listed above, in addition to heavy virtualization, messaging/email, and mid-level networking knowledge. Someone at this level has at least five years of experience providing client-focused solutions, as well as having some basic project management skills. If you have done more server migrations than you can remember, and built production (not lab) environments from scratch based on real business needs, you are probably at this level. You probably have a MCSE, maybe a VCP, and probably a CCNA in there somewhere. A PMP would be good here. You've done some work in the cloud, and you know the difference between Public and Private cloud, and the types of situations in which each can be a good fit.
