What you’ll be doing...

The System Performance engineer works with regional performance team in new equipment/feature trials and vendor evaluations. Conducts new product evaluations and develops qualification studies relative to DAS and WiFi deployments.

  • Work with a team of Performance Engineers focused on enhancing RAN network performance via monitoring tools, processes and expertise. Work with Performance/Engineering/Operation teams to identify and correct potential issues that negatively impact our baseline performance and/or our performance stats.
  • Analyze regional statistics (not cell site specific) to identify potential issues that are contributing to larger scale degradation of the network performance. Cross correlate Performance with that of the other markets across the country to compare performance and determine commonalities or trends of concern.
  • Improve region’s ability to identify and drive resolution to performance issues that are managed by centralized entities from HQ and Core networks. Forge a direct relationship with those teams to work together to manage an optimized end to end network (including applications).
  • Perform troubleshooting support for customer complaints that are not specific to a certain cell site. Determine which components/elements would create the issues that are described by the customer in order to quickly identify and resolve any issues.
  • Work with Engineering to monitor/balance traffic throughout the network.
  • Serve as lead LTE expert in the region. Develop detailed knowledge of LTE and utilize this knowledge to guide the region towards making correct decisions as we deploy and optimize LTE. Teach others in the region how to design for, troubleshoot and optimize all layers of our LTE deployment so that each Engineer has the expertise that they can apply to their specific cluster of cells.
  • Ensure system performance objectives on network performance and baseline performance are achieved.
  • Work with Customer Service & the NRB to provide timely analysis and resolution of customer problems.
  • Ensure smooth integration of new services and technologies into network.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Wireless experience.

  • Ericsson System and OSS experience.

  • Knowledge of LTE, including VoLTE and RAN Networks.

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering (or degree with a similar rigor).

  • Positive “Can Do” attitude and be a team player.

  • Wireless experience in a System Performance context.

  • Expert level knowledge of RF Design and Optimization preferably for LTE.

  • Strong data analytics skills with MS Excel programming,

  • Programming skills in Web Server, Database Server and Visual Studio are big plus.

  • Knowledge of IP and transport protocols.

  • Knowledge of propagation and optimization modeling tools such as Planet, GeoPlan, ACP, DB Planner.

  • Knowledge of 3GPP LTE standards.

  • Flexibility - Embraces change, Adapts communication style to setting, Investigates and implements alternate approaches to resolve difficult problems. Ability to work well with colleagues and with various departments (Area and HQ Network, Network Operations, Network Engineering, Maintenance Engineering) and vendors to implement changes and troubleshoot.
