The Systems Engineer will help design, build out, automate and operationalize our nationally-distributed infrastructure. Contribute to all aspects of QSI installed infrastructure and services in support of business need (including but not limited to security, networking, storage, OS + application, automation layers).
Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability, helping to set and report against KPI's, OLA's, and SLA's as needed to show success or areas for improvement.
Monitor and test service performance for potential bottlenecks, identify solutions, and work with development and operations teams to implement those fixes
Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies, contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures to report on adherence.
Develop automation tools, configuration management, and custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
Participate in providing top-notch business support and problem resolution, and lead continual improvement efforts to repair and design around identified deficiencies
Contribute to the team as a mentor and student, at all times looking for opportunities to help yourself and others develop, grow, and bring value.
10+ years operational experience in production environments, participating in a team which owns the full lifecycle of critical business services and underlying technologies.
Experience setting up your team for success through collaborative design and implementation of complete solutions, including: processes, policies, runbooks, diagrams, howto's, and other means of leading technically and organizationally.
Moderate skill sophistication in networking (L3 firewalls, L2+L3 switching, Ethernet + TCP/IP troubleshooting).
Moderate skill sophistication in storage administration (SAN, NAS, NFS, CIFS, iSCSI)
Expert skill in administration of Linux or Windows platforms (with moderate skill in the other).
Moderate skill with monitoring systems (Nagios, Zabbix, Orion, Cacti, Ganglia, Circonus, etc)
Solid scripting skills (e.g. shell scripting, Perl, Python, Powershell)
Experience in the most current technologies and solutions used in the geospatial industry
Experience with log and event correlation systems (Splunk, Sumo Logic, evtsys, etc)
Experience with managing and automating IaaS/PaaS/SaaS clouds (AWS, OpenStack, etc)
Experience supporting software development teams (CI/CD pipelines and tools)
Experience in online product operations environments (release management + automation)
Experience with ITSM lifecycle approaches and practices (ITIL, devops, other)
Experience with configuration management frameworks (e.g., cfengine, Ansible)
Experience with virtualization (e.g., Citrix, VMware, Virtual Box, KVM)
Expert skill sophistication in networking (L7 firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, advanced packet and traffic analysis, PKI lifecycle, long-haul WAN management, BGP, OSPF, infrastructure and service reporting + weathermapping, network configuration management).
Experience supporting information/operational security compliance frameworks (PCI, ISO 27001, NISPOM, NIST-800).
