Job Summary:
This position is with Charter’s Network Operations Cloud Infrastructure group. This group is responsible for the design, engineering, and operations of all Compute Platforms, Storage Area Networks, Automated Server Installations, Server/Network Virtualization, and Server Backup solutions.

A successful applicant must be able to demonstrate ability to ensure that technical solutions are architected, implemented, and operated in a reliable and cost-effective manner. Candidate must be willing to work in an entrepreneurial environment requiring broad experience, adaptability, and excellent problem solving skills.

Applicant will be responsible for keeping up to date with emerging technologies and crafting immediate and long term Server, Storage, and Virtualization roadmaps. Conduct product evaluations, test new potential solutions, and report on results. Support other teams within Network Operations assistance is required.

Candidate must analyze technical product requirements and engineer solutions to meet them. Determine most appropriate solution for addressing requirements, be it in-house development or integration of COTS software. Solutions must meet both time and cost constraints and stand up to peer review. Majority of projects revolve around automation of deployment and change management activities for virtual/physical servers and storage. In addition, there will be a strong focus on development of automation/deployment tools.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in project team meeting sessions and provide task level feedback to management
  • Provides 'on call' support to resolve OSS application issues after normal business hours
  • Uses established change management processes, requiring operational procedures be performed with minimal customer impact, (i.e. during established maintenance window)
  • Document system configurations and upgrades
  • Contribute to project planning, architecture specification, and implementation planning for infrastructure deployment tasks.
  • Determine accurate level of effort and timeframe for project completion.
  • Thoroughly document solutions including authoring of functional specifications, design documentation, installation, and operations guides.

Required Qualifications:
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
  • Expert level experience of UNIX/Linux operating systems, including their tuning and configuration, automated installation, and extended configuration
  • Expert level experience managing enterprise storage systems including EMC VMAX and their extended configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting and the support systems required for their operation
  • Expert level experience managing workgroup storage systems including Hitachi HUS 150 and their extended configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Expert level experience managing enterprise NFS systems including NetApp and their extended configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Expert level experience managing SAN switches including Brocade director and edge switches and their extended configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Expert level experience managing host storage and multipathing solutions for UNIX and Linux systems and their extended configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and strong collaboration skills. Understanding of software/system development life cycles
  • Candidate must be a team player, with an inherent ability to work well under tight timelines, and have strong systems architecture experience. Candidate will also be required to share experience, skill, and talents with associates and mentor others
  • Ability to create detailed documentation to functionally understand new and existing applications
  • Ability to follow and implement established change and control policies and procedures

  • Expert level experience with Veritas Cluster Server including cluster filesystem
  • Expert level experience enterprise backup solutions including Netbackup and Avamar and their extended configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Extensive experience with high availability software and hardware solutions
  • Experience with the physical and logical elements, interfaces, and configurations of x86 hardware (Oracle (Sun), HP, Dell, Cisco)
  • Experience with Shell, Perl, Ruby, and/or Python, including the ability to write/maintain scripts..
  • Experience with the VMware vSphere suite including virtual storage and networking management
