Responsibilities

The Technician-Systems is responsible for the advanced installation, operation, and maintenance of the regional data network & switching elements to ensure network integrity and quality. These networks include, but are not limited to Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, & Juniper network elements, routers, multilayer switches, MSPP, Ethernet and Ethernet backhaul. Other responsibilities include troubleshooting; upgrading; administering these platforms and multiple vendor systems; maintaining system, element and platform applications; and providing support to a varied user community; updating daily logs with site-specific information; and composing clear, concise reports for system documentation. The Technician – Systems is expected to perform his/her duties with minimum supervision, and participate in cross-functional projects as scheduled.

  • Troubleshoots, upgrades, and administers multiple vendor systems. Including acting as the technical lead during troubleshooting events.
  • Installs, operates, administers, and performs advanced maintenance of the regional data network elements.
  • Maintains systems, elements, and platform applications.
  • Updates daily logs with site-specific information, including tracking of all network inventory assets.
  • Composes clear and concise reports for system documentation.
  • Participates in cross-functional projects as scheduled.
  • Works the night shift Maintenance Window supporting network upgrades, reconfigurations and troubleshooting activities.
  • Participates in an On-Call rotation schedule.

Qualifications

Minimum Associates Degree, 2-year technical degree, relevant military experience, equivalent special electronics training and equivalent work experience is required. A 4-yr technical degree and/or certifications such as CCENT, CCNA or CCNP are preferred.

Intermediate training in at least 3 of the following areas: data networking and communications, wireless technologies, digital communications, operating systems and applications, telecommunications, and/or power distribution.

Demonstrated knowledge of data networking protocols including TCP/IP, OSI, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, BFD, SIP and other LAN/WAN protocols is required.

Demonstrated knowledge of Testing and Acceptance/Troubleshooting of data transmission facilities such as 1G and 10G native Ethernet, and SONET is required.

Strong programming and computer skills with emphasis on applications required. Knowledge and ability to build databases using SQL, Java, or other programming languages is a plus.

Additional experience Ericsson/Motorola CDMA and EVDO RAN, Tellabs DACS and PAEC, and Anypath or Comverse voice mail platforms considered a plus.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook is required.

Note that this is a Night Shift/Overnight position.
