The Reinsurance Technical Accounting Manager will serve as the reinsurance department’s accounting policy expert.  He or she will provide timely accounting analysis of new reinsurance transactions and coordinate the implementation of new reinsurance transactions with our Reinsurance Operations Area. The incumbent will ensure reinsurance transactions are accounted for in accordance with Brighthouse’s Reinsurance Accounting Policy, oversee development and maintenance of reinsurance accounting and reporting systems and ensure compliance with internal and external control procedures.



  • Prepare and coordinate the preparation of technical accounting papers as needed for reinsurance transactions.
  • Review and approval of risk transfer analysis for new and amended treaties and develop playbooks that outline GAAP and Stat accounting for new treaty actions.
  • Implement accounting changes to comply with regulatory accounting changes or reinsurance policy changes and will ensure the implementation of new reinsurance accounting is consistent with technical accounting conclusions and Brighthouse’s Reinsurance Accounting Policy. Will also provide oversight of reinsurance reporting and repository sub-systems.
  • Interaction and coordination with the lines of business, administrative and valuation areas to ensure reinsurance needs are being met as well as those of reinsurance customers.
  • Process improvements, ongoing initiatives and projects to streamline team procedures and task deliverables and lead various reinsurance or corporate initiatives as needed to improve overall performance and productivity.
  • Liaison with internal and external auditors to ensure internal control compliance and also provide necessary support for transactions on a timely basis and act as a liaison with external regulators, industry groups, peers and others to understand and influence current and future accounting guidance.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 8 or more yrs. experience in financial accounting and reporting, with at least 2 years of leading people/projects
  • Strong knowledge of STAT and GAAP accounting & reporting
  • Completion of, or working towards CPA, MBA or CMA highly desired. 
  • Reinsurance accounting experience in the Insurance industry preferred
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, strong analytical and problem solving skills. 
  • Ability to modify and develop procedures and policies to meet reporting needs/requirements.
