The Technical Trainer will deliver technical water-based fire protection training on various topics to internal and external trainees. The position is intended to support the fire protection business and/or industry and will gain exposure to various types of fire protection systems utilized within the industry today.

The trainer will be introduced to design software as well as nationally recognized design and installation standards and may work with Engineering Department personnel for idea and information sharing. The position may include representing Tyco on various committees or organizations if selected.

A minor portion (less than 10%) of the role may involve domestic or select global travel.

  • Present to live audiences utilizing PowerPoint or hands-on training aids
  • Conduct or coordinate webinars
  • Support LMS training portal
  • Deliver existing content
  • Update existing presentations and content
  • Develop new content or update existing training programs
  • Develop new training aids
  • Operate audio/visual equipment
  • Coordinate training activities
  • Assist with maintaining training programs accreditation
  • Support Technical Services team as needed
  • Develop job performance requirements (JPRs)
  • Organize and maintain classrooms and equipment
  • Evaluate attendees based on performance for the purpose of certification

  • Understanding and application of the applicable NFPA standards in regards to water based fire protection including NFPA 13, 14, 20, 25, 750 among others
  • Basic understanding of the NFPA standards process
  • General awareness of the International Fire Code (IFC) and International Building Code (IBC)
  • Well-versed in MS Office Suite, primarily PowerPoint, Word, & Excel
  • Multi-lingual candidates preferred
  • Special hazards or detection systems experience a plus

Preferred Technical Experience:
  • Completed recognized fire sprinkler apprenticeship program with a 5 years industry experience
  • BS Degree in Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering with 3 years industry experience
  • NICET Level III in Automatic Sprinkler Layout Certification with 5 years sprinkler design experience
  • NICET Level III in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems with 5 years sprinkler inspection experience
  • Fire sprinkler installation project management with 10 years industry experience
  • Fire sprinkler inspection/service department management experience with 10 years industry experience
