This position is within Oracle's Linux and Virtualization team, which is highly geographically distributed group.

We are looking for an experienced technical writer with strong technical skills including Linux, storage, networking and file systems.

The work environment provides the opportunity to continually acquire new skills, working with the latest network, server, virtualization technologies.
The successful candidate will work in a highly autonomous way with development and support engineers to create high quality documentation and so should be passionate about technology as well as the tools required to produce documentation.
Our team members work independently demonstrating discipline and strong time-management skills.
Given the geographically dispersed nature of the team, strong communication skills and an experience of working in a virtual environment are essential.


Native English speaker
Solid knowledge of operating systems such as Linux
Ability to install and administer own workstation

Ability to learn new technologies
High level of comfort working on the command line
Excellent written and oral communication skills

5 or more years creating documentation
Comfortable working with XML, DocBook XML, and XSL style sheets
Experience of working on wikis and with graphical tools

Natural curiosity
Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance, test or user manuals for paper, multimedia or web-based publications. Contributes to the timely design, production and delivery/completion of product documentation and document sets.

As a member of the technical writing division, you will organize and prepare information for publication and develop publication concepts for the best communication of subject matter. Review technical information prepared by other staff members for clarity and content. Take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures.

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
