We are looking for a Technical Writer Intern to join our team for a summer learning opportunity. A writer on the team will mentor you, guiding you through the support of an engineering project. You will help plan, write, and edit a variety of internal engineering documents.
Please have 2-3 samples of your writing available to send on request. Provide an explanation of your role for each sample. This position will be based in our Sunnyvale office.
Job Responsibilities
•Research, design, write, update, review, and test user information under the guidance of the manager or senior writers. •Write/integrate specific components of user information set. •Learn to coordinate activities with other writers, including gathering technical information, reviewing project documents, developing simple schedules, keeping schedules current, and meeting completion dates. •Obtain user information reviews. Interview software and test engineers to obtain technical information. •Participate in usability testing of products and documentation. •Create or obtain examples, illustrations, and screen captures.
Basic Qualifications
•Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program in English, Education, Journalism, Computer Science, or a related field, and must be returning to the program after the completion of the internship. •Expected to complete degree by December 2018 or earlier.
Preferred Qualifications
•Demonstrate mastery of accepted standards for grammar, punctuation, usage, style, and terminology. •Demonstrate understanding of accepted standards for technical writing in the areas of information organization, conciseness, consistency, technical accuracy, and clarity. Demonstrated writing skills. •Strong communication, organization, and teamwork. •Familiarity with various authoring tools would be helpful. •Some coding knowledge for a development language such as Python or Java is a plus. •Although training and direct supervision will be provided, candidates must be able to learn independently.
