Job Description
Amgen is committed to unlocking the potential of biology for patients suffering from serious illnesses by discovering, developing, manufacturing and delivering innovative human therapeutics. Amgen's medicines treat serious illnesses. We have a presence in more than 75 countries worldwide and have reached millions of people in the fight against cancer, kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis, bone disease and other serious illnesses. Our medicines typically address diseases for which the number of effective treatment options is limited, or they are medicines that provide a viable option to what is otherwise available.

The Role of Amgen's Drug Substance Technologies (DST) Organization is to deliver robust processes and technologies for the manufacture of Drug Substance/Active Pharmaceutical ingredient from early to late stage development, and serve our R&D, Clinical and Commercial partners. The Drug Substance Technologies and Engineering group is a part of DST and is principally concerned with translating developmental process into commercial manufacturing reality through scientific expertise, engineering innovation and deployment of manufacturing technologies.

The department at our West Greenwich, Rhode Island location is looking for an Undergraduate student interested in a 6 month co-op placement. This position will entail development of an accurate laboratory small scale filtration model. The purpose of this program is to develop local capability to assess the filterability of raw materials, media and process streams to facilitate technical troubleshooting and to support filter sizing requirements in the manufacturing facility. Current requirements include the need to assess filterability of complex raw materials (e.g. hysoy, yeast extract) to assess impact to manufacturing operations. This capability should allow more rapid trouble shooting of filtration issues as they arise in the manufacturing facility.

Amgen's intern/co-op program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient's lives, a collaborative team environment, competitive compensation, housing benefits (for eligible candidates), executive networking events, social networking events, community volunteer project opportunities and much more.
