Our Group Underwriting Specialist, Special Risk will be responsible for underwriting our largest and most complex Special Risk cases and potential opportunities. They will be responsible for working closely with the Lead Specialist, Special Risk in developing Policy and Procedures as well as partner with Product and Actuarial on future product enhancements and rate adjustments. Further, they will be responsible for developing the special risk talents of all members of the underwriting team in all segments of the business. Finally, they will act as a Subject Matter Expert on the product for all members of the Group Insurance Community, including Distribution, Claims, and Contracts.
The Group Insurance Special Risk Underwriting Specialist will:
•Work closely with Product and Actuarial in the development of internal capabilities
•Work closely with all levels of Underwriting professionals
•Be responsible for the profitability level of both inforce and prospective Special Risk clients, and provide consultation around benefit plan structure and administration in both Special Risk and standard Accidental Death and Dismemberment plans.
•Perform testing of reports for desired outcomes, demonstrate and release tools to target audiences.
•Work with Senior Underwriting Leaders, including the Lead Special Risk Underwriter within our organization.
•Work independently and within group environments on department specific projects
•Develop, train and mentor associates on Special Risk products and pricing.
Position location must be in one of the following offices: Roseland, NJ; Dresher, PA; Portland, NE; or Hartford, CT.
•Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years in Underwriting, with a focus on Special Risk (AD&D, Business Travel Accident)
•Possess general business writing, organization, presentation and time management skills
•Have strong leadership skills
•Be strong in training and mentoring
•Comfort level dealing with numbers, analytics, and problem solving
•Proficient in Microsoft WORD, Access, and PowerPoint
•Excellent EXCEL skills
•Resourcefulness, flexibility and creativity
•Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
•Ability to generate creative solutions; proactive problem solver
