Oncology is a strategic priority for and growing business for AstraZeneca. One of the key assets driving this growth is TAGRISSO, which was first approved in November 2015 in the US, and is now approved in over 45 countries for the treatment of patients with metastatic epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) T790M mutation-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
The VP, Lung Cancer Franchise in Gaithersburg, MD is responsible for shaping and leading the global commercial strategy for TAGRISSO and other small molecule lung cancer launches across all indications in addition to shaping the commercial strategy for emerging indications and combinations.  TAGRISSO builds on the successful 2L global launch and the successful FLAURA trial results.  The first line indication represents a multi-billion-dollar potential with future LCM opportunities as well. 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Accountable for overall Global Lung Cancer commercial strategies across all indications
  • Drive the global front line launch (FLAURA data)
  • Develop resources and programs to support launches
  • Partner with core markets to prepare for key launches
  • Build and shape capabilities in global and in markets to drive launches
  • Lead extended team (GAI, P&MA, Medical Affairs)
  • Contribute to broader Oncology Therapeutic Area strategy
  • Represent Lung Cancer business concerns to senior executives and governance committees. 
  • Influence and lead cross-functionally at senior levels
  • Manage the commercial global teams for TAGRISSO and small molecule lung cancer (
  • Interact with SET leaders and together with GMLs manage external communications
  • Deliver and execute post Phase 3/pre-launch marketing strategy & execution plan. Execute against plan
  • Work with extended team to deliver a sustainable pricing and access strategy for multiple indications
  • Build and lead an outstanding team
Essential Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required (advanced degree preferred)
  • Significant knowledge & experience of drug development, particularly from Phase II through commercialization and launch
  • Thorough understanding of pharmaceutical marketing to specialty care healthcare professional audiences
  • Thorough understanding of general business and core marketing principles and application to pharmaceutical market challenges
  • Thorough understanding of the development process and necessary commercial touch points with cross-functional global product team members
  • Broad commercial experience including pre-launch and launch
  • Strong strategic thinking, judgement and influencing skills, to influence R&D to ensure strong commercial focus
  • Strong leadership attributes to set direction, generate commitment, balance short and long term needs, constructively resolve issues
  • Proven experience and knowledge of a broad base of external customers including patients, prescribers, payors, providers and in/out license partners.
  • Evidence of developing compelling business cases
  • Proven track record of success in commercial roles
  • Broad commercial experience including launch / post-launch of specialty care products (oncology healthcare professional marketing experience strongly preferred)
  • Global and/or country brand marketing experience
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively develop powerful marketing materials for our customers and to write and deliver effective presentations for senior internal stakeholders.

  • Strong influencing skills, to influence and lead across local markets to ensure strong executional commercial focus
