DEPARTMENT:    Risk Management
THE ROLE:   The Head of Credit Risk Management will be a key role within the Risk Management team leading the credit risk function and reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer of Brighthouse.    The position will require an individual with deep specialized credit risk management experience in order to enhance the effective challenge capabilities of the credit risk management team relating to all Brighthouse Financial investment activities.
 The person in this role will build out the forming credit risk team and develop the procedures and framework for oversight and effective challenge of investment strategies and decisions across all asset classes including public credit, privates, structured securities and real estate and agricultural investments.  The incumbent will need sufficient experience, stature, and credibility in the organization (including Investments) to provide the effective challenge consistent with industry best credit risk practices and regulatory expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  •  Set a team climate that aligns to the Brighthouse culture
  • Employ inspiring leadership qualities that result in motivated teams
  • Design and build a separate review and oversight framework capable of providing an informed view on Brighthouse Financial's credit assessments.
  • Develop a target operating framework for monitoring and evaluating credit risk. Identify potential gaps where current processes lack sufficient independent control, oversight and challenge.
  • Provide ongoing effective challenge of investment strategies and investment decisions including review of appropriateness of assumptions used and recommendations made.
  • Responsible for credit risk concentrations and aggregation reporting, exposure methodology, limit setting and monitoring, escalation of limit breaches to management and portfolio reviews.
  • Participate on the Enterprise Risk Committee as needed.
  • Develop and document formalized review and approval procedures by asset class across the credit risk lifecycle.
  • Develop and implement reporting process for key investment decisions to the Enterprise Risk Committee
  • Conduct or assist in enterprise or regulatory stress tests and/or scenario analyses.
  • Develop and document quarterly asset stor reviews and formalized review procedures.
  • Develop and implement procedures for reviewing significant credit transactions consistent with review limits.
  • Facilitate review by the Enterprise Risk Committee of key investment and investment risk policies.
  • Review 1st line of defense back testing of impaired investments for potential improvement in underwriting guidelines.
  • Support, collaborate and liaise with the business leaders.

  • 10+ years of risk management experience with specific background in credit risk management or equivalent investment experience (e.g. credit analyst)
  • Accomplished change management leader, able to operate effectively in a highly matrix environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence policy and strategy through effective collaboration
  • Undergraduate degree required, CFA, MBA or other advanced degree preferred.

Travel will be limited as Charlotte, NC is the corporate headquarters with infrequent travel to operations in Convent Station, NJ and Tampa, FL.
