The West Coast Veterinary Sales Consultant is responsible for specific territory activities while representing DePuy Synthes Vet products.  Responsibilities include attending to Veterinary hospitals and veterinary surgeons to improve customer service and to provide a local resource to our customers for all their related needs. This position is responsible for handling customer inquiries relating to sales, surgical techniques and product inquiries. The position will also maintain and develop strong relationships with customers and continuously work to increase the core customer base. The DePuy Synthes Vet Consultant uses his/her product knowledge to present, demonstrate, and ensure proper utilization of DePuy Synthes’ products. Consultant becomes a trusted member of the hospital’s team. These activities are expected to broaden and deepen the company’s customer base in the territory. The DePuy Synthes Consultant must achieve a level of expertise and competence, as well as a reputation for integrity. The DePuy Synthes Consultant is required to be on call 24 hours to respond to the needs of our customers and works every day to improve patient care.


This position is based on the West Coast, US and serves the customers in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Hawaii.  The primary methods of customer communication are customer visits, email, telephone, and tradeshows.

  • Receive and promptly respond to veterinary customers’ technical & product inquiries
  • Develop and follow up on product quotations for inquiring new or existing customers
  • Attend key society and trade shows to educate surgeons on product line and generate sales leads
  • Continuously work to increase core customer base via cold calling & leads follow-up
  • Establish effective working relationships with key accounts and surgeons
  • Travel to customers to (1) Cultivate new business, (2) give product in-services as part of the sales cycle or (3) guide surgeons in complex surgeries
  • Liaise with Power Tools division, finance, customer service & other internal departments as needed
  • Provide technical guidance on vet products to other employees as required
  • Provide support to other areas of DePuy Synthes Vet, as needed
  • Continuously improve personal knowledge of veterinary surgical procedures by AO, DePuy Synthes and other training opportunities
  • Regularly update and utilize database of customers
  • Ensure timely and accurate handling of all sales administration matters
  •  Additional duties as assigned.
  • Know and follow all laws and policies that apply to one's job, and maintain the highest levels of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times
  • Diligently participate in our compliance program-related activities as denoted by your supervisor or our Chief Compliance Officer
  • > 30% travel within the US required



  • 4 or more years of proven sales achievement, preferably in the Veterinary field is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation and presentation skills
  • Business acumen
  • Self-motivated to pursue new customers and stay knowledgeable of current surgical techniques
  • Superior patience and listening skills to effectively solve customer problems
  • Must be able to deal with multiple priorities in a calm and efficient manner


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, animal science or related field or equivalent experience is required
  • Master’s in business administration preferred
