Description: Position Summary: The Shop Helper is responsible for assisting in receiving food from vendors then re-packing to fit trip size and ensure that there the proper portions are packed for each trip. Work with reservations office and kitchen coordinator with special diet requests from passengers. The Shop Helper must be able to openly and willing work in a group and in a team-oriented atmosphere. All Shop Helpers must fully participate in all preparations necessary to conduct a river trip. The Shop Helper must assist crew members in the equipment preparation before trip launch, the equipment clean-up and maintenance upon return.

Essential Functions:
  • Pack proper food quantity, plates, utensils, etc., for each trip in a timely basis giving crew adequate time to pack onto rafts.
  • Be aware of MSDS sheets and books and read and use this information when necessary
  • Must be honest, dependable and forthright, with the ability to confidently work without direct supervision
  • Maintain a positive attitude - always be willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed
  • Must be flexible - willing to work a varied schedule
  • Assist the crew, Kitchen Coordinator and River Operations Manager with preparation and clean-up of river trips.
  • At the launch site, assist in the unloading of rafts from trailers and assist crew as needed.
  • Shop Helper must follow all safety regulations and stay in compliance with WRA's operations manual as well as Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas Employee Handbook.
  • Shop Helper must assist with equipment repairs.
  • Must be honest, dependable and forthright, with the ability to confidently work without direct supervision.
  • Assist the crew with the pre-trip loading of rafts. Ensure the following safety items are loaded: rescue kit, major and minor first aid (check for expiration dates and product integrity), repair kits, satellite phone, spare bow lines, spare motors (and/or oars), and air pump. Ensure boat registration is current and visible.
  • Must be able to work with diverse populations in a supportive and positive manner.
  • Must be flexible - willing to work a varied schedule
  • Know and comply with all company policies and procedures regarding safety, security, emergencies and energy
  • Report to work on time
  • Other duties as assigned

Status and Scope:
  • Shop Helper reports to Kitchen Coordinator and the River Operations Manager
  • Shop Helper must be comfortable working long days.
  • Shop Helper must be able to handle many different types of personalities/situations. Work as a team.

  • Must be over 18 years of age

Travel Requirements: Little or No Travel (>10%)

Lifting Requirements:
VERY HEAVY - Lifting objects in excess of 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
